Blues

Golf at Cambridge is one of only nine ‘Full Blue’ sports within the University, and the standard is correspondingly high. All resident students at Cambridge University, including international students, are eligible for selection. The Blues play matches over most weekends of the Michaelmas and Lent terms, providing the opportunity to play competitive golf at many of the finest clubs in England.

Matches against the hosting members are very competitive, with most clubs fielding teams featuring plus-handicap players; although always played in the spirit of ‘serious fun’. The matches themselves are 36 holes, usually with 18 holes of foursomes in the morning and 18 holes of singles played in the afternoon. One of the great benefits of Cambridge golf is the chance to meet and converse with alumni and members from all walks of life.

We have coaching with world class coach Paul Ashwell and there is strength and conditioning organised with a trainer at the University Gym twice per week, which is great for fitness and team bonding. In addition to the competitive golf, there are also great opportunities for socialising across all three teams (Blues, Stymies and Ladies) and across other sports. We are known for our friendly, social atmosphere and there will be plenty of organised and informal social events throughout the year.

The Varsity Match for 2025 takes place at Royal North Devon Golf Club on Friday 28th March and Saturday 29th March.
